Yamal's goal was an answer to France, who opened up the scoring in the ninth minute. Spain would keep the offensive attack up, with a shot attempt off the boot of Dani Olmo, which ricocheted off a French defender for an own goal.

Yamal was born on July 13, 2007, making him just 16 years old at the time of his goal, days short of his 17th birthday.
